our Excel Industries History
How we started Excel Industries
To the backdrop of the Second World war; Excel is born in a cowshed in then remote suburb of Jogeshwari, the brainchild of the resolute master chemist C. C Shroff. The fledgling company soon gained a reputation of being able to manufacturing even the most complex chemicals on demand and at short notice.
In a significant step for the Swadeshi chemical industry, Excel supplied the German giant Bayer’s India arm with very critical raw inputs on an emergency basis. The raw input was previously not manufactured in India and could only be imported. Excel’s miracle maker C.C. Shroff researched and developed the process to manufacturing them indigenously in record time, making Bayer’s manager a complete fan of ‘Papas’ talents.
StanVac’s Trombay refinery ran short of a critical input that was not available in India previously. The company desperately turned to C.C. for help in four short days ‘Papa’ had developed the process for and produced enough of the chemical for StanVac’s requirement. In addition he charged no more than the regular import rates for the input, saying “Industry and business do not survive on profit alone. They need the goodwill of people more than profit.”
The winning spree begins, Excel Industries Limited wins the Sir P.C. Ray award for developing products and processes indigenously.
Excel goes public, with our first public issue of Rs. 50 lakh, that was heavily oversubscribed within 3 days of hitting the market such was the investor confidence in our abilities.
Excel Commissions India's first indigenous phosphorus plants....
Excel’s plant at Roha is inaugurated. It was our fourth plant and our largest till date. There were a myriad of challenges technical, logistical, local but C. C. brothers Govindjibhai and Kantisen who led the company now, motivated the entire company to rise to each one of them.
Excel enters into the Environmental Biotechnology field with Celrich, an in-house developed biological treatment for urban and rural waste. Celrich offers a safe and effective means of turning all kinds of organic wastes into highly effective manure. Instead of monetizing this technology we have decided to franchise it and allows small scale entrepreneurs to tackle India’s urban waste challenges.
We complete our golden jubilee as a successful chemical company. We had dozens of awards for quality and innovation under our belt and our new age plants online and stabilized and growing fast.
We become ISO 9002 certified from BIS, a major achievement and dream come true for the founders.
